🚨 'A chance for him' - Fabrizio Romano's exclusive update on Aaron Ramsdale's situation
Can he displace David Raya?
On Saturday evening, Aaron Ramsdale will once again take his place in the Arsenal starting line-up against Brentford.
He does so only because David Raya, still on loan from the Bees until the Gunners make the deal permanent in 2024, is unable to play against his parent club.
The expectation will be that the Spaniard will be straight back in the side for Arsenal’s next match against Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday, and the tricky Premier League game next weekend against Wolves.
For Ramsdale, with Euro 2024 on the horizon, it’s the most difficult of situations to contend with, so the 25-year-old needs to decide where his priorities lie.
It seems obvious from Gareth Southgate’s previous press conferences that if Ramsdale isn’t playing regularly by next summer, it would be difficult for the keeper to be picked as part of the England squad to go to Germany.
In fairness to Southgate too, it’d be hard to argue with that line of thinking for such an important tournament. England will need all of their players at the top of their game if they’re to stand any chance of victory.
To that end, a move away from Arsenal would seem to be the correct course of action for Ramsdale, though that won’t be easy according to Fabrizio Romano.
‘There are no changes at the moment and it’s still the same situation for Aaron Ramsdale as we mentioned in recent weeks,’ he wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
‘It’s not easy for good goalkeepers like Ramsdale to move, because you need an important club to come in for him, and it’s not always easy to find that. So, there’s a chance for him to stay until the summer if no clubs will appear.’
There’s still a few weeks left until the January transfer window opens for business, so perhaps a club will come in for him when he least expects it.
