Arne Slot keen on Liverpool job after positive talks with the club
The Dutch manager is currently leading the race to take over at Liverpool
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is eager to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after having extremely fruitful discussions about a possible move to Anfield.
Following Klopp's announcement earlier this year that he will be departing Anfield at the end of the season to take a break from football, the Reds are searching for a new manager.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and Sporting boss Ruben Amorim have both been linked with the Liverpool job.
However, the Merseyside club have held talks with Feyenoord manager Slot to take charge of the Premier League club.
Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest update on his X account, reporting that the talks between both the parties have been positive and the manager is interested in the job.
Romano confirmed that there is no release clause included in the contract of the manager, however, the Dutch Eredivisie club would demand a compensation.
Following update has been provided by Romano on the subject:
Initial contacts between Arne Slot and Liverpool, very positive. New contact to follow soon with Slot keen on #LFC job.
Understand there's NO release clause included into his contract; Feyenoord would request compensation fee as they did with Tottenham one year ago.
Romano has revealed why Slot is a strong contender for the job and why the Premier League club are considering him:
"Arne Slot is a strong candidate for the job. He's considered already an excellent manager with very good style, but also with potential to make special things also at highest level possible in Premier League. I'm only aware of contacts with Liverpool so far; let's see if other clubs enter the race, but Liverpool are there for sure."
Since taking over for Dick Advocaat at Feyenoord in 2021, the 45-year-old has consistently performed well; prior to that, he was at AZ.
After finishing third in the Eredivisie in his first season, he guided the Rotterdam team to the first-ever Europa Conference League final.
In his second season, the team won the league title, and on Sunday, they defeated NEC Nijmegen 1-0 to win the KNVB Cup for this season.
Due to his aggressive playing style and accomplishments on a relatively minimal budget, Slot has drawn interest from many clubs, including Tottenham last season.
