Arsenal are prepared to complete £27m signing to start their summer business
The Gunners will soon make Raya's move to Arsenal permanent.
Arsenal signed Brentford goalkeeper David Raya in a loan move last summer.
The goalkeeper is now expected to sign in a permanent move for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta is ready to activate the buy option clause for the Spanish goalkeeper.
After joining the club last summer, the goalkeeper was made the first choice at the Emirates Stadium, ahead of English goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Raya cemented his place in the startling line up for the Gunners with fine performances.
According to information provided by Fabrizio Romano on X, the Premier League club are expected to complete the permanent signing of the Brentford goalkeeper.
Romano tweeted:
“Arsenal are expected to proceed with formal steps to activate £27m buy option clause for David Raya in the next days.
“No changes, plan confirmed since day one: he’s staying and he’s gonna be #AFC goalkeeper.”
Ramsdale would have to settle for another season on the bench if he were to stay in North London, as Arsenal are expected to exercise the £27 million purchase option clause this summer, making the Spaniard a permanent member of the team.
Raya helped Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title with the Gunners losing the race to win the league against Manchester City on the final day of the season.
The 28-year-old keeper's distribution is an asset for Arteta and how he likes his team to play football.
Raya formed the best defense in the Premier League along with Arsenal defenders, who conceded 29 goals in their 38 matches.
The Spaniard ended up winning the Golden Glove award for keeping 18 clean sheets in the Premier League.
Arteta's decision to permanently sign the goalkeeper is not surprising as the manager is highly impressed with the performances of the player.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are not only going to sign Raya this summer as they are also looking at their options to sign a new striker.
It remains to be seen who that striker will be but the Gunners are actively looking at options to strengthen their attack.
