🚨 Arsenal star linked with Newcastle but "crucial" development needs to happen first
Could he swap the Emirates Stadium for St James' Park?
Fabrizio Romano has responded to the recent transfer rumours about Newcastle United being interested in a January deal for Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe in the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column.
Smith Rowe isn’t seeing much first-team football at Arsenal right now, and it’s not too surprising to see some rumours circulating in the media in a time when his future could perhaps be a bit uncertain.
One crucial thing with Newcastle, however, is that they are yet to decide their targets and will instead wait and see the outcome of their Champions League group stage campaign before making any progress on January signings, according to Romano.
He said: “Emile Smith Rowe - This is a name that keeps coming up, but again I’m not aware of any concrete talk at this stage with Newcastle, let’s see closer to the January window.
“As I always mentioned, Newcastle are not advancing on any signing now as it’s crucial for them to understand if they will be in UCL in the second part of the season before moving.”
Earlier this month, Romano also stated: “At the moment he’s not pushing to leave so we can’t predict the future. Of course Smith Rowe wants and needs to play but he also understands it’s not easy for Mikel Arteta now as there are many key players in the squad.”
Smith Rowe seems like he could be a good fit for Newcastle, but would Arsenal let a talented homegrown player leave for a top four rival? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
