Arsenal to continue trust in Kai Havertz, but is Mikel Arteta using him in the wrong position?
Fabrizio Romano has had his say on Kai Havertz's slow start at the Emirates Stadium.
Fabrizio Romano has provided some insight into Arsenal’s stance on Kai Havertz after his slow start to life at the Emirates Stadium.
Writing in his exclusive Daily Briefing column earlier today, Romano explained that Havertz still has the full backing of manager Mikel Arteta, who views the Germany international as an important player, despite his struggles since joining from Chelsea in the summer.
Some Arsenal fans will have been a little surprised when Havertz joined, as he hadn’t exactly set the world alight at Stamford Bridge either, even if he scored a memorable winning goal for Chelsea in that Champions League final victory over Manchester City in 2021.
Havertz mostly played up front for Chelsea but has moved back into midfield for Arsenal so far, with Romano expressing his view that the 24-year-old’s best role is as a number ten behind a main centre-forward.
“It’s not been the easiest start for Kai Havertz at Arsenal, but I can guarantee there is no panic behind the scenes,” Romano said.
“Everyone at the club including Mikel Arteta wants to trust and support Kai. They believe he’s an important player and he’s going to be protected by the club.
“There’s been a little uncertainty over his role, as he played mostly up front at Chelsea and is now in midfield with Arsenal. In my opinion, Havertz is best as a number 10, ideal to play behind the striker, but that’s just my point of view.”
Will Kai Havertz come good for Arsenal? Should Arteta change his position? Let us know in the comments!
Was never convinced by the Havertz signing in the first place, really surprised we took this gamble and there's absolutely no sign of it paying off so far...
