Bayern Munich chief responds to Julian Nagelsmann return rumours
German club has provided an update about Nagelsmann possibly making a return to the Allianz Arena..
Max Eberl, FC Bayern's new sporting director, has issued an update about the managerial position at the club.
After speculation about Julian Nagelsmann taking over at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, Eberl has remained tight-lipped about the candidate who could succeed Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.
In March 2023, Bayern fired Naglesmann, the current Germany coach, and hired Tuchel to replace him. Tuchel has already announced he will be leaving the Bundesliga giants at conclusion of the season.
Bayern's top choice for the position was Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, but he said on Friday that he will stay with the Bundesliga leaders next season, amid rumours of a move to Bayern and Liverpool.
About Naglesmann possibly taking charge of the Bundesliga champions, Eberl said: "I know that this is of interest to the entire public... I've said often enough that we're exploring our options".
"I've never commented on a name", told DPA.
Meanwhile, Nagelsmann is under contract to lead Germany from June 14 to July 14 at home at the Euro 2024. The German Football Federation (DFB) have not taken any decision about the renewal of his contract.
Christian Falk had the opportunity to speak to Eberl recently who mentioned that the German giants were considering more than four managers.
He included Alonso in those names who has since decided to stay at Leverkusen. The other names mentioned were Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi, Jose Mourinho and former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte.
If Bayern eventually decide to go for the Brighton manager, they will have to face competition from Liverpool who have also shifted their focus to other targets after Alonso's decision to stay at his current club.
To get the signature done for Brighton’s Italian manager, they will have to pay a release clause close to €14m.
There is nothing concrete at this stage but the clubs have narrowed down their choices and things could start to take a meaningful shape soon.
