'Seven, eight months': Fabrizio Romano shares update on Manchester United star's injury
Fabrizio Romano shares latest on Benjamin Sesko's injury
Manchester United received a massive scare over the weekend when striker Benjamin Sesko was forced off late in the dramatic 2-2 draw against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Slovenian international, who entered the fray as a second-half substitute, sustained a knee injury following a robust challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven.
With all substitutions already used, United were forced to see out the remaining minutes with 10 men, leaving manager Ruben Amorim admitting he was initially “concerned” about the severity of the issue.
Fabrizio Romano shares update on Benjamin Sesko’s injury
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered a reassuring update on the 22-year-old’s condition, easing fears of a potentially career-altering layoff.
Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano stated that despite waiting for an official club statement, the initial feeling from the Manchester United medical staff is “quite positive.”
Romano stressed that the injury is “not a super serious injury” or one that would see the striker sidelined for “six, seven, eight months,” such as an ACL tear.
While he noted that it will still take some time for Sesko to recover, the good news is that it “doesn’t look like an ACL injury, so a super long one.”
This positive update carries significant weight for United’s January transfer window plans, as manager Ruben Amorim had previously hinted that a serious injury could force the club into the market for a temporary replacement.
He said: “We are still waiting for an official statement from Manchester United, but my understanding is that the injury from Benjamin Sesko is not a super serious injury. So, it’s not an injury that is going to take, I don’t know, six, seven, eight months to see Benjamin Sesko available on the pitch again.
“Well, let’s wait for the final test made by Manchester United, the medical staff. So, we wait for an official statement, but the initial feeling after the injury from Manchester United staff at the moment is quite positive.
“So, it’s not going to be a super serious or long one. It’s going to take some time, but it’s not going to be a super long one.
“And so, that’s a positive news for Manchester United, of course, and also could have an impact on the January transfer window because Ruben Amarim after the game said, “Let’s see about the injury of Benjamin Sesko. Maybe if it’s a serious one in January, we might have to do something in that position, but at the moment, again, doesn’t look like an ACL injury, so a super long one.”
Sesko’s time at Manchester United so far
The injury represents a temporary setback for Sesko, who is still finding his feet at Old Trafford following his high-profile summer move from RB Leipzig.
The Slovenian has featured 12 times in all competitions this season, netting two goals, and has shown glimpses of the prodigious talent that prompted United to secure his signature.
While his early form has been deemed challenging in some quarters, the current international break now provides a crucial window for the club’s medical team to finalise the assessment and ensure he returns to the squad as quickly and safely as possible.
His availability will be vital as United face a congested fixture list heading into the busy festive period, giving the club hope he can still play a significant role.
