Arsenal, Spurs and Man United stars left out as Brazil name new-look Copa America squad
Brazil's 23-man party still includes nine Premier League players.
Brazil manager Dorival Junior has left some big names out of his squad for the 2024 Copa America.
A 23-man provisional squad was announced on Friday for the tournament that is due to begin on June 20.
Nine of the 23 players called up are currently based in England’s Premier League.
However, there was no room for Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison or Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.
Fabrizio Romano shared Brazil’s squad list via Instagram.
It included Manchester City keeper Ederson and Liverpool no.1 Alisson.
Gunners duo Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli also made it in.
Meanwhile, all five midfield players are from English clubs - Fulham’s Andreas Pereira, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta and Joao Gomes of Wolves.
Casemiro’s absence follows a disappointing club campaign with Man United, while Jesus and Richarlison have both been hampered by injury issues.
Richarlison and Casemiro each made four starts for Brazil at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the Spurs star scored three times - including the official Goal of the Tournament against Serbia.
The other major absentee from Brazil’s latest squad is former captain Neymar, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in October last year.
Brazil’s attacking options in the USA will include Real Madrid strike partners Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, as well as Palmeiras teenager Endrick - who is set to move to the Spanish champions following his 18th birthday in July.
