Breaking: Fabrizio Romano names club who have opened talks over signing Manchester City star
It looks like he's heading for the Etihad Stadium exit...
Fabrizio Romano has broken some big news this morning as he reports that Juventus have opened talks with Manchester City over the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Posting on X, Romano says Phillips is open to joining Juve, but there remain some hurdles in this deal as the Italian giants want to sign him on loan with the option to buy, whereas Man City want that to be an obligation.
Still, it seems negotiations are set to continue, with Romano providing the update below:
“Understand Juventus have now opened talks with Manchester City to discuss Kalvin Phillips deal. Negotiations starting between clubs as Kalvin is said to be open to the move. Juventus plan to offer loan with buy option clause. Man City want it to be mandatory. Talks on.”
Phillips has also been linked with Newcastle, but it perhaps makes sense that City would favour him moving abroad, while the Magpies’ Champions League exit is expected to impact what they can do in the transfer market this January.
City signed Phillips from Leeds just a year and a half ago, but he’s struggled for playing time at the Etihad Stadium and surely needs a move this winter in order to keep his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Euro 2024.
