Brighton to appoint Roberto De Zerbi replacement this week after positive talks
The Premier League club have made progress in their search for a new manager.
Brighton are in discussions with St. Pauli over the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler as their next manager.
Hurzeler, one of Europe's youngest managers, led Hamburg-based St. Pauli back to the Bundesliga after the team won the 2.Bundesliga last season.
Hurzeler, 31, will be Roberto De Zerbi's successor when he arrives at the Amex Stadium.
At the end of the season, the Italian coach departed from the South Coast.
The new manager of Brighton will go down in Premier League history as the youngest permanent manager.
Hurzeler, a native of Texas, has been coaching St. Pauli for the past eighteen months, having been hired as the team's youngest-ever coach at the age of 29.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, the Premier League have made progress to appoint their new manager and the talks are progressing well.
Romano tweeted:
“Brighton will complete the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler as new head coach this week, talks with St. Pauli are proceeding very well.
“The agreement is considered close, with all parties keen on getting it done very soon for the youngest manager ever in Premier League (31).”
A number of Brighton players, such as goalkeeper Jason Steele (33), captain Lewis Dunk (32), defender Joel Veltman (32), midfielders Pascal Gross (32), James Milner (38) and striker Danny Welbeck (33), are older than Hurzeler, who turned 31 in February.
He served as Timo Schultz's assistant coach at St. Pauli until taking over as head coach when Schultz was fired in December 2022.
Clubs across Europe have taken notice of the work he has been doing with the German club.
Brighton would be hoping he can be as successful as De Zerbi, who took the Seagulls to European football.
Meanwhile, Brighton's fellow Premier League club Manchester United had a meeting with Thomas Tuchel to become their new manager but the German wants a break from football.
