La Liga defender set to complete medical in London ahead of €14m transfer to Crystal Palace
Riad will sign a five year deal with the Eagles.
Morocco defender Chadi Riad is set to complete his medical in London ahead of his move to Crystal Palace.
Palace and Betis agreed a fee of €14m last week for Riad and the 20-year-old is now closing in on the completion of his move to Selhurst Park.
The defender is on the move once again having only joined Betis from Barcelona last summer.
Fabrizio Romano took to X.com on Tuesday evening and said: “Chadi Riad, set to complete medical tests in London as new Crystal Palace player.
“Here we go, confirmed.”
Romano took to X.com last week to confirm a fee had been agreed between the two clubs and said:
“Chadi Riad to Crystal Palace, here we go! Deal verbally agreed also on final details between clubs for €14m.
“Chadi will sign a five year deal as new #CPFC player, valid until June 2029.
“Understand medical tests could already take place next week, waiting to sign.”
Riad is a Morocco international with two caps for the senior side, and he made 30 appearances for Betis last season as they finished in seventh place under former Premier League winning manager Manuel Pellegrini.
The centre back could be viewed as a replacement for Marc Guehi with doubts over whether the Palace captain will still be at the club next season.
The Eagles finished the season with a flourish under Oliver Glasner who replaced Roy Hodgson in February, and the Austrian guided them to a top ten finish, which is some feat given Palace were in danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap when he took over.
Palace will hope they can keep hold of star players Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze with big Premier League club’s circling around the pair, and if they do maybe a push for Europe is possible.
