Chelsea agree deal to sign Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer
Defender will have his medical next week and sign a long term contract.
Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo is set to become Chelsea’s first summer signing after agreeing a deal to join the Blues.
Chelsea haven’t officially announced Enzo Maresca as their new manager yet, but that hasn’t stopped them from agreeing a deal to sign Adarabioyo.
The 26-year-old, who is out of contract with Fulham, had been in advanced talks with Newcastle before Chelsea swooped in to seemingly hijack the deal.
Fabrizio Romano took to X.com to confirm the deal was done subject to a medical being completed, and the contract being signed.
Romano said:
“Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea, here we go!
“Initial approach one month ago and verbal agreement reached today.
“Medical tests have also been booked, set to take place next week.
“Documents set to be signed after medical, if all goes to plan.
“Exclusive story, confirmed.”
Chelsea have been in the market for a centre back following the departure of Thiago Silva and the uncertainty surrounding Trevoh Chalobah’s future.
The Blues have moved quickly to wrap up the deal, which on a free transfer represents smart business given Adarabioyo’s age, leadership qualities and Premier League experience.
The Englishman started his career at Manchester City’s academy before leaving to join Fulham in 2020, and he went on to make 132 appearances for the Cottagers during a four year spell with the club.
Adarabioyo is likely to know Joe Shields and Enzo Maresca from his time in the City academy which could have swayed his decision to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.
The centre back is tall and great in the air, which will be of benefit to Chelsea in both boxes from set pieces, and is also quick.
With Adarabioyo set to complete his move to Chelsea, it seems that Chalobah’s time at the club could come to an end with the Blues reportedly valuing the 24-year-old at around £25m.
Good, get that traitor out of Fulham, the sooner the better.
