Chelsea
Mauricio Pochettino is adamant Chelsea will be challenging for silverware again soon: “We will succeed. For sure. The most difficult in football is to keep believing when you don't get results. Maybe you can say: this guy is crazy! But I am not crazy. I know what I’m doing. I’ve no doubt with all the hits against us, we will succeed.”
The Argentine also spoke about Cole Palmer after the Englishman scored and assisted during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United. “For me he’s a playmaker, a player who can link the team. He’s also a player with the capacity to score goals and give assists. The contribution of Cole Palmer from day one has been massive,” Pochettino said.
Marc Cucurella’s injury, which he suffered against Everton, will be assessed in the next few days — I have been told he won’t be back until February though. It will take the defender sometime before he can think about making a return.
Just like Cucurella, Reece James also picked up an injury against Everton. You can read what Fabrizio Romano has to say about the Englishman here.
Luton Town
🚨 Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed during yesterday’s game against Bournemouth. The game was abandoned but the Hatters later confirmed in a club statement that the defender was ‘alert and responsive’.
Manchester City
After opening the scoring against Crystal Palace yesterday afternoon, Jack Grealish has now scored in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career.
It wasn’t all good news for the defending champions though. A late penalty from Michael Olise meant the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Manchester City have won just one of their last six Premier League games and this is what Pep Guardiola had to say: “It's not bad luck, it's deserved. We give away two points. We are not able to win games. It happened here against Liverpool, it happened here against Spurs, and we cannot take points.”
Manchester United
Erik Ten Hag has spoken about Rasmus Hojlund’s slow start at Manchester United: “He's scored in the highest level in the Champions League with five goals. That's a huge performance from a young player and you see he has the potential. I'm sure he will get there and score in the Premier League. I see how he works in training.”
Elsewhere, Ten Hag is facing a big challenge when Manchester United play rivals Liverpool at Anfield later today. Find out the latest on the Dutchman’s future exclusively from Fabrizio Romano here.
Napoli
Victor Osimhen registered an amazing assist for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia during Napoli’s 2-1 win over Cagliari last night. See the magic the Nigerian produced below with pictures from TNT Sports.
Osimhen’s new contract is edging closer. You can read the latest on where the renewal is up to from Fabrizio Romano here.
Newcastle United
Raul Jimenez was shown a straight red card for this high-flying challenge on Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff. See it below with pictures from S Live.
Elsewhere, Lewis Miley became the Magpies’ youngest-ever goalscorer in the Premier League when he opened the scoring against Fulham after 57 minutes.
There have been some suggestions PIF could sack Eddie Howe following Newcastle’s mid-week Champions League exit but fear not Magpie fans —Fabrizio Romano has the latest on the manager’s future here.
RB Leipzig
Emil Forsberg has joined New York Red Bulls on a permanent deal from RB Leipzig. His contract is until 2026 and has a one-year option until 2027.
Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti has spoken about his Real Madrid contract: “It's a simple question. I will be here until July 30, 2024. That is the time I have to deal with the renewal. If the club is happy, I am happy too,” he said.
Endrick, who will join his new Real Madrid teammates in 2024, has visited the club. “We are delighted with Endrick. He came to visit us and to watch the game. We have spoken with him. We have to wait until July,” Ancelotti said.
And here is a photo of the Brazilian meeting Jude Bellingham for the very first time.
Elsewhere, Aurelien Tchouameni has returned to Real Madrid’s squad after injury.
Sevilla
Sevilla confirmed last night that manager Diego Alonso has been sacked with immediate effect.
Spurs
Although he was sent off against Nottingham Forest on Friday, Yves Bissouma is having a great season at Spurs and Fabrizio Romano has explained how Ange Postecoglou has got the best out of him in his exclusive column.
West Ham
A January exit for Danny Ings is a concrete possibility. It’s still too early to say which clubs could make an approach for him, but the 31-year-old could have a new challenge soon.
