🚨🚫 Chelsea intend to keep hold of 'really important player' despite Real Madrid interest
Los Blancos appreciate Blues ace
Although they’re not having the best of seasons in the Premier League so far in 2023/24, Mauricio Pochettino is clear that Chelsea are on the right path to success as long as the first-team are given time to gel properly.
The Blues are still languishing in 10th position on 12 points, already a cavernous 14 behind English top-flight leaders, Tottenham Hotspur, who they play on Monday evening.
Any Blues player who has lofty ambitions and expectations surely won’t be happy with how things have panned out at present, though it’s incumbent on each and every one of them to lift the club out of its current malaise.
Many of them have underperformed to date so looking inwards would be a start point from which to move forward.
One player who remains vital to the work that Pochettino is doing is captain, Reece James.
The England international has had his injury problems but has led by example when required.
It’s perhaps with that in mind why the west Londoners won’t countenance a bid for his services, despite Real Madrid showing an interest in the player.
Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive Daily Briefing, sought to clarify the current position on the defender.
‘We always see rumours about Real Madrid and their appreciation for Reece James coming from the Spanish media, but guys, from what I’m hearing, it's important to understand that Chelsea consider him a really important player for the future,’ he wrote.
‘[…] Everyone at the club, because he's an English player, because he's a very important full-back and because they believe his potential is still very big, they all want Reece James to remain part of the project.’
To that end, unless a ridiculous offer was put on the table by Los Blancos, it appears that James will remain at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.
How important is Reece James to Chelsea? Should the Blues cash in if Real Madrid make their move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
