Chelsea's €40m bid for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion rejected
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves.
Chelsea have had a €40m bid for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion rejected as they continue their hunt for a new forward.
The Blues are in the market for a striker to compete with and complement Nicolas Jackson, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season.
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge before he decided to remain with the Bundesliga outfit, whilst Chelsea decided against pursuing a deal for Victor Osimhen due to cost.
Chelsea have been in negotiations with Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran over a deal worth up to £40m, but it appears they have another name in mind.
Fabrizio Romano has reported the Blues have had a bid worth up to €40m rejected for Atletico Madrid’s Omorodion.
Romano took to X.com and said:
“Atlético Madrid have rejected today formal bid from Chelsea for Samu Omorodion around €30m plus add-ons up to €40m package.
“Chelsea keep considering Omorodion and Jhon Durán as options for new striker.
“Atlético Madrid insist on their plan to keep Samu Omorodion.”
The 20-year-old joined Atletico from Granada last summer, before spending the season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, where he scored nine goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.
The Spain under-21 international has yet to make an appearance for Atletico but they are believed to view him as a key player for the future, and he is under contract until 2028.
Chelsea will face competition for Omorodion’s signature with Serie A clubs Roma and Napoli reportedly also interested.
Serhou Guirassy, Dominic Solanke and Lois Openda have been touted as possible alternatives, but it appears Chelsea’s new striker will either be Omorodion or Duran.
Chelsea have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from neighbours Fulham, and are pushing to sign Crystal Palace star Michael Olise as they look to improve on last season’s sixth placed finish.
