Cole Palmer reacts after penalty argument between Chelsea teammates
The Chelsea players were involved in a heated altercation against Everton.
Cole Palmer firmly said to his Chelsea teammates, "I am the penalty taker," after yet another altercation during Monday night's rout of Everton.
Although Mauricio Pochettino's team easily defeated the struggling Toffees with six goals, the victory was marred by another awkward on-field disagreement about who should take the spot kick.
Palmer ultimately had to take the kick himself after Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke argued about who should take it in the 64th minute.
The England international has reacted to the incident, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on his X account.
The 21-year-old said, as quoted by Romano:
“I’m the penalty taker. I wanted to take it so I took it”.
“Everyone wants to take responsibility.”
“We ended up laughing and joking about it but the manager has spoken to us about it now”.
Palmer scored his fourth goal of the game with the penalty, but the rivalry between Chelsea players became a recurring theme for the evening, leaving Pochettino furious.
Palmer is now the designated taker, as the Chelsea manager officially announced for the first time after the game, and Palmer himself reaffirmed this status in a post-match interview.
The Chelsea manager had some harsh words for his players for the way they reacted at Stamford Bridge.
This was the ex-Manchester City player's ninth successful penalty kick of the season.
Jackson, 22, added another goal to his tally against Everton, scoring his 10th league goal of the season with a deft touch on a cross before turning and shooting into the corner of the net.
The Blues have regained their form just at the right time of the season with crucial matches coming up.
They face Man City in the semifinal of the FA Cup this coming weekend and Chelsea fans and Pochettino would be hoping Palmer and co. continue their goal scoring streak.
The Chelsea manager outlined his team's transfer plans for the future in order to make the team more competitive for next season.
One Chelsea player is on his way out of the club with Newcastle United set to become his permanent destination.
