Antonio Conte agrees to become new manager of Napoli
The Italian will sign a contract until 2027.
Antonio Conte is back in football after agreeing a three year deal to become Napoli’s next manager.
Conte has been out of work for over 14 months following his departure from Tottenham, but is now back in the big time.
The Italian had been linked with a potential return to Chelsea whilst he was out of work, but Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed he will take over at Napoli.
Romano took to X.com and said:
“BREAKING: Antonio Conte as new Napoli head coach, here we go!
“Agreement reached on every detail also including add-ons, after fixed salary, image rights and staff members.
“Conte will sign the contract valid until June 2027, documents approved. Huge appointment for Napoli.”
The former Chelsea boss is back in Serie A having managed Juventus and Inter Milan previously, and faces a tough task in Naples.
Having won the Serie A title in the 2022-2023 season, Napoli endured a torrid title defence which saw them finish tenth and have three different managers.
They are now turning to a proven winner in Conte, who has lifted the Serie A title on four occasions as well as lifting the Premier League.
The most important matter for the 54-year-old to address will be the future of star striker Victor Osimhen, who is widely expected to leave this summer.
Conte could look to a reunion with Romelu Lukaku, who he knows well from his time at Inter, and the Belgian striker has a clause in his Chelsea contract which would allow him to leave for £38m.
The task for the Italian will no doubt be to get Napoli back into Europe and challenging at the top end of the table.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, with the pair a potentially explosive combination.
