Good morning and Happy New Year! Welcome to the first Daily Briefing of 2025 as the January transfer window opens. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy :-)

Today’s top stories:

  • Don’t miss Charles Watts’ latest column!

  • Joshua Zirkzee is linked with two Serie A clubs

  • Plus more from Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid

Arsenal

  • Arsenal have set their sights on a new goalkeeper! Full story here.

  • Plus Charles Watts has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Matheus Cunha - full details in his latest exclusive column.

  • Mikel Arteta on Leandro Trossard: “He’s a player that I value a lot, that we value a lot. He’s very versatile, very competitive, and he’s always a massive goal threat. Leo naturally is a little bit of a moaner. But I like that because he’s very competitive … in training sessions, always busy with the referees’ decision, because he wants to win, and that’s what I love. When he’s not there, he’s not happy, but that’s what pushes him, and when he comes onto the pitch, he’s got that hunger, ‘I’m gonna show you.'”

Barcelona

  • Official: La Liga have rejected Barcelona’s appeal to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. “Barcelona has not presented any alternative that would allow the registration, in accordance with La Liga's economic control regulations, to register any player from next January 2.”

  • Olmo’s agent Andy Bara tells Fabrizio Romano: “The decision made by Dani is to STAY at Barcelona as he wants play for Barca. We are NOT considering any other option. Dani wants to play for Barcelona.”
