David Moyes urges fans to support under-fire Kalvin Phillips

David Moyes has asked West Ham fans to support Kalvin Phillips following a rocky start to his loan spell at the club.

The 28-year-old received criticism for his performance in West Ham's 4-3 loss to Newcastle United.

Phillips came on as a substitute for the Hammers, who were leading 3-1, but he conceded a penalty within 10 minutes of entering the game.

The event was viewed as a watershed moment that prompted Newcastle to launch an incredible comeback.

The Manchester City loanee, who also committed an error that resulted in a goal in his West Ham debut, was allegedly observed making an ugly gesture to supporters as he boarded the team bus following the defeat.

The West Ham manager said:

“Kalvin Phillips is a human being, what he needs is support and people to help him”.

“We will support Kalvin. He's a really good player and I believe we can still make something out of the time we've got with him here”.

Phillips was expecting to resurrect his career at West Ham following a disastrous 18 months at City, but he has failed to score or assist in his 11 Premier League outings for the Hammers.

He was also sent off against Nottingham Forest. His poor recent form has seen him get dropped from Gareth Southgate's England squad.

West Ham will aim to rebound from the setback to Newcastle when they host Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium on Tuesday.

Are Man City looking to sell Phillips and how much are they asking for him?
