Manchester United midfielder "has to go to a club that plays good football", says agent
The 27-year-old is set to leave Old Trafford for good this summer.
Donny van de Beek will not play for Manchester United next season.
The 27-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025 but both the club and the player intend for him to move elsewhere this summer.
United signed Van de Beek from Ajax in 2020 for a transfer fee of £35 million.
He had been a key member of the Ajax team that won the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup double in the 2018/19 season, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
However, a move back to Amsterdam is not on the cards.
Van de Beek’s agent Guido Albers has categorically ruled out a return to Ajax, while also insisting that the midfielder needs to find a club that plays “good football”.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.com on Sunday, Albers said: “He definitely will NOT return to Ajax this summer.
“My preference is to look in Spain, Italy or France. Donny has to go to a club that plays good football”.
Van de Beek has spent the current campaign on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt but he has only featured in eight matches for the Bundesliga side.
Frankfurt have the option to sign Van de Beek permanently this summer but that will not happen.
Van de Beek will leave Old Trafford having played in 62 matches for the Red Devils.
Of those 62 appearances, only 23 were as a starter.
He spent four months on loan at Everton in the 2021/22 season, scoring one goal in seven Premier League outings for the Goodison Park club.
Van de Beek has been capped 19 times by the Netherlands at senior international level but has not played for his country since 2021.
He is not expected to be called up for Euro 2024 this summer.
