Eddie Howe discusses Bruno Guimaraes' £100m release clause
Newcastle United manager has confirmed Guimaraes' contract has a release clause.
Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has a release clause in his contract that is good until the end of June, according to Eddie Howe.
The Brazil international is available for £100 million to suitors, and he has been strongly linked to leaving St James' Park this summer.
Since moving from Lyon to Newcastle in 2022, Guimaraes has established himself as one of the team's most impressive players.
Since joining the Toon Army, the playmaker has made 81 appearances and has been a key member of the team's tremendous success over the last few seasons.
Ben Jacobs has reported on his X account what Howe said about Guimaraes' release clause and what the future holds for him.
Howe said, as quoted by Jacobs:
"Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there’s a sort of finish point. We don’t want constant speculation, it’s not healthy for the player or for us…
"It goes without saying we want to keep him, I want to build our team around him. His form has been very good and he seems very happy and settled. He’ll be thinking about a very busy summer ahead, where hopefully we can take the team, with him a big part of it. But we aren’t in control of that so let’s see."
Other Premier League teams have taken note of the 26-year-old's performances.
Not only teams in the same league but some of the biggest clubs in Europe have been impressed with what the former Lyon player has done at St. James' Park.
Throughout the summer, Guimaraes is expected to receive several offers; however, it is unclear if interested parties would attempt to activate his release clause or bargain with Newcastle for a lower fee.
The midfielder helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League last season.
This season, the Magpies are in a battle to qualify for the Europa League and the Brazilian international has been at the centre of their charge.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update about rumours linking Guimaraes to Arsenal.
