Eddie Howe issues update about Alexander Isak's future at the club
Newcastle striker has been leading the attack well and scoring goals for fun this season..
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has cooled down the reports linking his striker Alexander Isak with a move away from the club.
Fabrizio Romano has reported on X.com what Howe said about the Sweden international, who has been in fine form for the Magpies this season.
The Newcastle manager said: "We are trying to build a team here. We need to keep our best players".
"The elite ones are so difficult to recruit...", he added.
With a brace against Tottenham on Saturday, Isak maintained his incredible run and increased his league goal total to 17 for the season, only surpassed by Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins.
He has now scored in six straight games at St. James' Park and has scored 21 goals this season in all competitions.
The former Real Sociedad attacker has taken the responsibility of leading the Newcastle attack well.
Arsenal have been looking at Isak for some time. Even when he was playing in La Liga, the Gunners have monitored him and taken keen interest in his progress.
However, there has been no contact with him or the club and there is nothing concrete in the reports linking Isak with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Since joining from Real Sociedad back in the summer of 2022, the Sweden international has been performing consistently for the Premier League club.
After Newcastle's inconsistent form this season, largely due to an injury crisis at the club, the striker has helped them regain form and climb up the Premier League table.
The Magpies are now sitting in sixth position in the Premier League standings ahead of Manchester United, West Ham, Chelsea and Brighton.
Even though they have failed to match the success of last season when they qualified for the Champions League, they could still end the season by qualifying for Europe. It remains to be seen if it will be for the Europa League or the Conference League.
