Eddie Howe responds to rumours linking Alexander Isak with an exit from the club
The Sweden international is one of Newcastle United's most important players..
According to Eddie Howe, Newcastle would not consider any summer offers for Alexander Isak.
The Sweden striker, who cost the club a record £63 million to sign in 2022, increased his season tally to 18 goals with two penalties in Saturday's 4-3 victory against West Ham.
If his recent comments were concerning for some of the Newcastle faithful, the latest update from his manager confirms how keen they are to keep the forward at St. James' Park.
Speaking on the future of Isak, the Magpies manager said:
“He's an outstanding talent and no one here at the club would want to lose him in the summer”.
“He is different. Although he's been out injured, he's very good so I hope for really big things, just as long as he can stay fit”.
Howe is restricted to using Isak as his only available centre forward since Callum Wilson is still out with a pectoral injury.
With his fifth straight full game for club and country, he is starting to dispel concerns about his capacity to remain fit.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season despite dealing with injuries, and he has drawn interest from a number of major teams.
Given the numerous injuries that the 24-year-old has had during the season, it is remarkable that only six players have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Isak.
The Newcastle manager’s latest remarks will come as a warning to clubs who were looking to steal the forward from the Premier League club.
Howe is still focused on clinching European football for a second straight season, though, for the time being. With a game in hand, his team are currently only one point behind West Ham after defeating them on Saturday.
