🚨 Everton set to make one of their most important signings of the season
Doucouré gets a new deal to 2025
Currently sat in 16th position in the Premier League with only two wins all season, Everton haven’t had the best of starts to the 2023/24 campaign under Sean Dyche.
Not to mention the threat of a 12-point deduction hanging over them for alleged financial irregularities which, if proven, would see the Toffees plummet to the bottom of the English top-flight.
Against that backdrop, the news that Abdoulaye Doucouré is on the verge of agreeing a new deal with the club will come as a welcome relief.
The 30-year-old has been a mainstay for the club since signing in 2020, and it was his goal that kept the club in the Premier League on the final day last season, Everton squeezing past Bournemouth at Goodison Park at the end of May.
Daily Briefing columnist, Fabrizio Romano, exclusively revealed on Thursday evening that an agreement with the player shouldn’t be too long in coming.
‘Abdoulaye Doucouré, set to sign new deal at Everton very soon,’ he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
‘Understand agreement’s on the verge of being sealed over new contract until June 2025. Option until June 2026 will be included. Deal at final stages, set to be completed #EFC.’
So far this season, the midfielder has three goals from his nine Premier League games, which is a more-than-reasonably one-in-three ratio.
As long as any punishment isn’t as severe as might be expected and provided the player stays injury free, he could once again become their talisman and help to haul them away from trouble long before Everton get involved in a relegation dogfight.
What do you think of Everton offering Abdoulaye Doucouré a new deal? Should they be more concerned with results at this stage? Let us know in the comments.
