EXCL: 'Here we go' for major Chelsea signing, shock Ansu Fati move, late Liverpool approach for midfield gem, Ivan Toney rumours, and more
Today's exclusive column as the transfer deadline looms...
Cole Palmer to Chelsea ‘here we go’ and clarification on Emile Smith Rowe
We start with a ‘here we go’ for Cole Palmer to join Chelsea from Manchester City! The deal is done for £40m plus £5m in add ons. The player will have his medical tests today, so it’s all agreed and the deal is completed - Palmer will go to Chelsea. Chelsea have their signing that they wanted in the offensive positions, signing another top young talent as they’ve done so many times now under Todd Boehly’s ownership.
There have been some other interesting Chelsea transfer rumours doing the rounds, but honestly I’m not aware of concrete negotiations for Emile Smith Rowe. Chelsea have been linked with 20 players or more this summer, but behind the scenes they wanted Cole Palmer. Smith Rowe was never top target for Chelsea or close to joining even, because Arsenal trust him and he’s part of Mikel Arteta’s project.
Ansu Fati to complete shock Brighton move
The shock of the night is about Ansu Fati, who is set to join Brighton on loan. Other clubs have also been keen, and yesterday Tottenham were in contact with Barcelona, but it was never a done deal, just a round of negotiations to understand the conditions of the deal, but there was no concrete plan, nothing confirmed, no deal in place.
And then the surprise twist - Ansu Fati’s move to Brighton is almost done. We’re just waiting for documents to be signed, but verbally everything is agreed. The player and his camp will travel to Brighton today to sign the contract, and he still needs to have medical tests, but it’s ‘here we go’. It’s a loan deal for one year with no buy option.
