EXCL: Tottenham agree loan-to-buy deal for Timo Werner
German striker will join Spurs on loan for second half of 2023-24 season.
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a loan-to-buy deal with RB Leipzig for striker Timo Werner.
The German, previously of Chelsea, will team up with Ange Postecoglou back in London as the Lilywhites look to continue their push for Champions League qualification.
Set to replace Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich in the summer, Werner, 27, will be hoping he can form a solid partnership with the likes of Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson.
Giving the deal his trademark ‘Here We Go’ treatment, the Daily Briefing’s Fabrizio Romano, who updated fans on X on Saturday afternoon, said: “Spurs sign Werner on loan and will also include buy option clause NOT mandatory. Timo is due to travel to London on Saturday then time for medical.”
Since returning to RB Leipzig 18 months ago, Werner, who lifted the 2020-21 Champions League with Chelsea, has scored 18 goals and registered seven assists in 54 games in all competitions.
