EXCLUSIVE: Lionel Messi set to win 2023 Ballon d’Or
Monday night's ceremony in Paris will see the Argentine lift his 8th Ballon d'Or award.
Lionel Messi will continue his Ballon d’Or dominance on Monday night in Paris.
Following a remarkable World Cup win with Argentina last year, Messi, according to Daily Briefing columnist, Fabrizio Romano, is primed to beat Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and win what will be the eighth Ballon d’Or award of his career.
Having already lifted the prestigious individual award seven other times, Messi’s record haul of Ballon d’Or trophies has never been bettered throughout the history of the sport.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a personal tally of five Ballon d’Or awards, is the closest competitor to Messi but with the Portuguese star now playing in the Saudi Pro League, it is all but impossible for him to equal, or better, his rival.
Messi’s previous Ballon d’Or wins came in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021.
