Fabrizio Romano has moved to ease Manchester City fans’ concerns amid transfer rumours linking Erling Haaland as a target for Real Madrid.
The Norway international is a hugely important part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, having played a starring role in firing Man City to the treble last season with a stunning record of 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions.
Haaland would surely be a dream signing for Real Madrid and numerous other big clubs, but that doesn’t mean City are at all likely to sell their star player any time soon, even if his agent Rafaela Pimenta recently raised eyebrows by being spotted at a game at the Bernabeu.
Romano attempted to explain the reason for this visit, all whilst downplaying the Haaland Real Madrid links in his column earlier this morning.
He said: “Following the Mbappe story, I’ve also seen some links between Erling Haaland and Real Madrid, some story from Spain saying that it’s now over for Real Madrid and Mbappe, and so they are focusing on Haaland.
“However, at the moment, I can guarantee that the only focus for Haaland is on Manchester City. Nothing is happening in terms of transfer talks or negotiations. Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta was recently at the Bernabeu for the Champions League game with Braga, but it was not to discuss a transfer between Haaland and Real Madrid - she was there discussing about other players in Europe.
“So no need for Man City fans to worry - Haaland’s only focus is what is happening on the pitch, there is simply nothing else to report as of now.”
