Fabrizio Romano provides update on Wolves pursuit of 18-year-old ace
Four clean sheets in 11 games
Currently sat in 15th position in the Premier League table, it’s arguable that with the talent that they have available in their squad Wolverhampton Wanderers should be flying a little higher in the English top-flight.
The Midlands-based outfit have struggled to get going so far in 2023/24, winning only two and drawing one of their seven league matches so far.
After becoming the first side to beat Man City this season last time out, Gary O’Neil and his squad have shown that they have what it takes to stand toe to toe with the very best and still come out on top.
However, a draw against strugglers Luton Town, as well as heavy losses to the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool suggest that the side have a way to go to ensure that results are more consistent.
Evolution of the squad is important, and one young star is already on the radar of the club.
‘Understand Wolves wanted to sign Toulouse talented GK Guillaume Restes (2005) - approaches rejected in the summer but he's one to watch,’ Daily Briefing columnist, Fabrizio Romano wrote.
‘France U21 goalkeeper has four clean sheets in 11 games this season, playing in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, but also with France U21s under Thierry Henry.’
At 18 years of age, Restes is clearly one for the future, but his resume speaks for itself.
Were the custodian to become available for purchase, and there’s nothing to suggest that Toulouse are interested in doing business at this point, there’ll surely be a queue of suitors for his services.
That’s because top level goalkeeping talents are hard to come by, particularly those who have the kind of projection that Restes has.
Are Wolves right to be looking at young talent rather than more experienced players? Does their league position hinder their pursuit of Guillaume Restes in your opinion? Let us know in the comments!
