Football fans buzzing at launch of major new video games
Fifa announce return to video gaming and the Premier League has teamed up with Roblox
It’s good news all round for football fans at the moment. If the excitement of the Premier League and the World Cup anticipation weren’t enough, the world of football gaming just got better.
At the end of last year, Fifa announced that its much-awaited return to video games is set for 2026 – and, now, the Premier League has teamed up with Roblox to launch a new gaming experience.
Fifa is coming to Netflix
Fifa is undoubtedly the biggest name in football gaming, but it’s been out of the mix for a few years. Its shock split with developer Electronic Arts came in 2023, after thirty years of collaboration. Reported issues included the licensing cost of using Fifa’s name, and EA rebranded its best-selling game as EA Sports FC.
Now, it is Netflix that has secured the rights to one of the most profitable brands in gaming history.
“The FIFA World Cup is going to be the cultural event of 2026, and now fans will be able to celebrate their fandom by bringing the game right into their living rooms,” said Alain Tascan, President of Games at Netflix.
“We want to bring football back to its roots with something everyone can play with just the touch of a button.”
Fifa president Gianni Infantino is similarly optimistic, promising a reimagined game that “truly marks the beginning of a new era of digital football.”
Netflix subscribers will be able to online via the Netflix mobile app, or on select TVS.
The Premier League teams up with Roblox
For those who prefer a traditional gaming experience to mobile alternatives, the new Premier League game, Dribble Dash, offers exactly that. The Roblox game, which launched last week, tasks players with dodging obstacles and testing their skills through a training ground, before moving on to the path towards the stadium. On the way, they must collect consumables, earn coins and win trophies.
Dribble Dash is exciting addition for Roblox, a franchise that has seen a huge surge in popularity. In 2025, the gaming giant topped over 100 million daily active users. Roblox is free-to-play, but in-game purchases can be made using Robux, the brand’s unique currency. While the in-game costs can add up, customers are able to save money by using a Roblox gift card.
Dribble Dash is expecting to keep evolving throughout 2026, with new content and challenges being added all the time.
