Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita suspended by Werder Bremen
The midfielder has endured a difficult season in Germany.
Midfielder Naby Keita has been suspended by Werder Bremen for the remainder of the season as his first season back in Germany goes from bad to worse.
According to information provided by Fabrizio Romano on his X account, the midfielder has been punished by the Bundesliga club.
After five years with Liverpool, Guinea international Keita left Anfield on a free transfer in the summer.
Although he was a member of the Merseyside club when they won the Premier League and the Champions League, his tenure with the team was plagued by repeated injuries.
Romano posted the updated on his X account:
“Werder Bremen have suspended Naby Keïta until the end of the season.
The club have also handed the midfielder a substantial fine.
The 28-year-old will no longer train with the team or be part of first-team dressing room.
Keita joined on free transfer after #LFC chapter.”
The midfielder has faced issues at the club on and off the pitch, since joining them in the summer.
When Keita found out he wasn't going to be playing against Xabi Alonso's title winners, he made the decision to go home rather than ride the team bus.
He is now prohibited from playing for Werder for the remainder of the season after the club took action against him.
The game would end in a 5-0 loss for Werder Bremen, giving Bayer Leverkusen their first German Bundesliga championship in their 120-year history.
Keita will not be playing for the German team in the next five games of the season, the club has stated. He's also been hit with a fine.
Due to a muscular injury, the former RB Leipzig player has only played 106 minutes of Bundesliga football this season. As a result, he hasn't had a significant influence.
Meanwhile, Keita’s former club Liverpool are looking for a new manager as Jurgen Klopp is set to leave the Reds at the end of the season.
The latest update on Liverpool’s pursuit of their new manager has been provided by Fabrizio Romano.
