🚨 FOUR YEAR worldwide ban confirmed for Juventus ace Paul Pogba after doping accusation upheld
Frenchman's career almost certainly over
The fall from grace of French World Cup winner, Paul Pogba, is complete, after the Prosecutor’s Office in Italy upheld the accusation of doping and handed the 30-year-old a four-year worldwide ban from all football related activities.
Given that Pogba will be 31 in just over a fortnight, his ban won’t end until just before his 35th birthday, meaning that his career at the elite level is surely now over.
Back in August, after Juventus’ first league game of the season against Udinese, Pogba was randomly tested and his sample was found to contain testosterone.
Once his B sample confirmed the same, the question was only ever going to be how long he would be banned for.
Italian media suggest that his defence team had tried to argue that Pogba had ingested the drug by accident, but this was apparently never believed by the prosecution.
It’s a sad end to a career which promised so much - particularly when Pogba was at his marauding best during France’s brilliant run to the 2018 World Cup title in Russia.
Since then, a record-breaking move to Manchester United and a subsequent switch back to Juventus have been abject failures.
This latest saga underscores what might’ve been for a player that could’ve arguably been one of the greatest of his generation.
UPDATE: Pogba statement in full as he vows to appeal four-year ban.
