World Cup round-up
France and England involved in goals galore
England secured third place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after an extraordinary 6–4 victory over France in Miami. The Three Lions raced into a commanding 4–0 lead before halftime, with Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and Bukayo Saka, who scored twice in the opening period, all finding the net.
France produced a fierce second-half comeback through Kylian Mbappé, who scored twice, alongside goals from Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé.
However, Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, while Jude Bellingham struck in stoppage time to complete England’s six-goal haul and seal the bronze medal.
It was a remarkable ten-goal contest and the highest-scoring third-place match in World Cup history. Saka was England’s standout performer, while Mbappé’s brace took him to 22 career World Cup goals.
