🚨 "Offers" mentioned by long-term Manchester United target as he breaks silence on his future
Surely only one way to read this...
Frenkie de Jong has spoken out on his Barcelona future following plenty of previous links with Manchester United.
The Netherlands international is one of the finest midfield players in Europe on his day, and it would have been exciting to see him testing himself in the Premier League.
The English top flight is widely viewed as the pinnacle of European football these days, with so many top teams and top players now opting even to join mid-table sides over some more established big names in Spain, Germany or Italy.
Still, it seems De Jong doesn’t view it as the be all or end all, with the 28-year-old now insisting he’s always been happy to stay at Barca, despite having offers from elsewhere.
Frenkie de Jong breaks silence on his future
Speaking to ESPN, De Jong made it clear he’s happy where he is now, though he also hinted strongly at opportunities to move to a top Premier League club.
“Premier League? I don’t think so,” he said. “There have been offers, but I’m happy at Barca.
“The Premier League is the best league right now, like La Liga was about ten years ago. But that doesn’t mean you have to play there to show you’re a great player.”
That’s certainly a positive piece of news for Barcelona fans, with the former Ajax man continuing to be a crucial part of how they play with his quality of passing and intelligent play from the middle of the park.

Two Manchester United managers wanted Frenkie de Jong
De Jong was most notably linked with United back in Erik ten Hag’s time in charge, with the pair having that obvious connection from their Ajax days.
The Red Devils also looked at De Jong under current manager Ruben Amorim as well, which is perhaps not too surprising given their need for a signing in that area of the pitch right now.
Casemiro is performing well at the moment, but is not getting any younger, while Manuel Ugarte has been disappointing and Kobbie Mainoo finds himself out of favour.
No wonder Elliot Anderson is a top target for MUFC ahead of January, while we’re also hearing a lot about other names like Carlos Baleba, who was first targeted by the club back in the summer, and Crystal Palace’s in-demand sensation Adam Wharton.
De Jong, however, increasingly looks like a ship that has long sailed as far as a move to Old Trafford is concerned.
