🚨 Gerrard wants new signings in January and Saudis still courting Salah says Romano
Time for the Egyptian King move to the UAE?
At the end of last season, Mo Salah sent a tweet out which essentially apologised for Liverpool failing to make it into this season’s Champions League.
The Reds talisman spoke about the 2022/23 campaign not being good enough, and given the upheaval over the summer with multiple midfielders leaving and Liverpool missing out on major targets, few would’ve given Jurgen Klopp’s side a prayer in getting back into the title conversation.
It’s therefore to their great credit that Liverpool have been able to do just that and Salah, as always, has been a major part of their success.
Different season, same Egyptian King.
Salah has long been coveted by the Saudi Pro League of course, and they’ll continue to push hard to bring in a player that could take the league to another level.
Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s former captain and for many their best-ever player, has made a point of publicising his desire for new club, Al Ettifaq, to bring in new players in January and next summer.
Citing the issue of the club not being where it should be - they’re ninth at present and 26 points behind leaders Al Hilal after just 18 games - it’s clear that Gerrard would love a player like Salah to take his club to the next level.
Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait because, as Fabrizio Romano noted in his exclusive column, Salah is staying put.
‘I’m not aware of specific names yet for Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq, but for sure it will be a busy January for them. There will be many signings and the number will depend on the opportunities. Gerrard told the board in a very clear way, both in private and public, that he needs new players,’ the transfer expert wrote.
‘The situation is very quiet with Mo Salah and a Saudi switch, however.
‘Salah is fully focused on Liverpool as they’re flying in all competitions, but the Saudis still like him obviously and they still dream of Salah for their project. This is not something concrete for the January transfer window.’
