"He's a big prospect" - Fabrizio Romano responds to Chelsea transfer links with 19-year-old
Could this teenage talent be on his way to Stamford Bridge?
Fabrizio Romano has responded to recent Chelsea transfer rumours linking them with an interest in signing Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande.
The talented 19-year-old has really caught the eye in recent times and it seems likely that there’ll be a whole host of big clubs from around Europe keeping an eye on his development.
Romano says this is normal for such a big prospect, though he didn’t seem to think there was anything particularly concrete happening with Chelsea just yet, even if they are looking out for a new signing at centre-back as a priority for 2024.
Discussing the Diomande Chelsea links in his Daily Briefing column earlier today, Romano said: “We’re now seeing talented young Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande being linked with Chelsea, but my understanding is that there’s nothing concrete at the moment.
“Scouting activity for top clubs is normal and he’s very good player but I’m not aware of any concrete discussion so far.”
He added: “As I recently reported, Arsenal have been tracking Diomande for some time, but there are other interested clubs as well as he’s a big prospect, so it’s normal.
“Let’s see if the Chelsea links materialise into anything more concrete, but I’m not hearing of anything substantial at the moment.”
