Former Man City star available on free transfer has no plans to retire aged 38
He scored four goals and provided 22 assists in 123 Premier League games for City.
Former Spain and Manchester City winger Jesus Navas will be available on a free transfer this summer after Sevilla opted against offering him a new contract.
Navas celebrated his 38th birthday in November last year but, despite being older than the average retirement age for a professional footballer, he will not be hanging up his boots at the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano reported via X.com on Thursday: “Jesus Navas will not retire, he’s ready for new chapter as free agent at 38.
“Navas was not offered new contract by Sevilla despite being legend of the club. From 2000 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2024 as Sevilla player.”
As mentioned by Romano, Navas has spent the vast majority of his senior career with Sevilla, having made his first-team debut for the Andalusian club back in 2003.
He moved to Man City 10 years later and stayed in England for four seasons before returning to Sevilla in 2017.
In his first season in England, Navas was a key member of the team that delivered City’s second Premier League title.
All of his four Premier League goals came in that 2013/14 campaign, including two in a 6-0 win over Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
Navas also won the League Cup twice while based in Manchester.
He has won eight trophies with Sevilla, including the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League four times.
Navas has also achieved great success at international level with Spain.
He lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and then helped La Roja win Euro 2012 two years later. He was also part of the Spain side that won the UEFA Nations League in 2023.
As well as his remarkable fitness levels, one of the main reasons behind the 38-year-old’s longevity has been his positional versatility.
Navas is no longer primarily a winger reliant on speed. In recent years, he has developed into a solid right-back with a sharp attacking edge.
While a return to Manchester is clearly not on the cards for Navas, City have been linked with a possible move for another Spain international.
As reported by Romano in Thursday morning’s Daily Briefing: “Dani Olmo to Manchester City transfer is on the club’s agenda, but other Premier League clubs are reportedly keen on him too.”
Those other clubs are said to include Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United.
