Julian Nagelsmann signs new Germany contract
36-year-old coach extends his stay with the national team.
Julian Nagelsmann's decision to accept a new contract put an end to rumours about his future, giving Germany a significant boost ahead of this summer's Euros.
Nagelsmann's new contract extends past the World Cup in two years, while his old one was set to expire after Euro 2024.
According to information provided by Fabrizio Romano on X, the German coach has extended his stay with the Germany national team.
Romano provided the following information on X.
OFFICIAL: Julian Nagelsmann has signed new deal as German national team head coach until World Cup 2026.
Nagelsman said, as quoted by Romano: “This is a decision of the heart. It is a great honour to be able to coach the national team. We can inspire the country”.
The 36-year-old was given a short-term contract by the German FA in September of last year following the dismissal of Hansi Flick.
Clubs have been showing a lot of interest in Nagelsmann, assuming he would be available this summer.
After having productive negotiations with Germany, Nagelsmann announced on Friday morning that he would continue his adventure with them.
After leading the team to triumphs against France and the Netherlands in March, Nagelsmann has won three of his six games in charge of the team.
He has now signed a long-term contract to remain in charge of the team after the summer.
In addition to managing Bayern Munich, Nagelsmann spent two years at RB Leipzig, helping the team get to its first-ever Champions League semifinal.
He had previously spent three-years Hoffenheim before that.
On June 14, Germany will play Scotland in Euros' opening match before facing Hungary and Switzerland in Group A.
Last month, Nagelsmann was linked to a return to club football. However, the Germany boss will now be leading his team to the Euros and the 2026 World Cup.
