Jurgen Klopp delivers title race verdict ahead of facing West Ham
Liverpool boss is not confident about his team's chances of winning the league.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool's humiliating 2-0 loss to Everton on Wednesday night means they are all but out from the title race.
Liverpool suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of their local rivals Everton in midweek.
Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ensured a 2-0 win for Sean Dyche's struggling Everton side.
The defeat came as a huge blow to Klopp's men, who had recently lost to Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The latest round of results leave Liverpool in third position and their title race in serious jeopardy.
According to Ben Jacobs who reported on his X account, Klopp does not sound confident about the title race.
Klopp said, as quoted by Jacobs:
“I think even Arsenal and City see it as a two-horse race. We might have to say something else publicly, but they don't expect to lose two games from now on. I also don't expect them to do that.”
In all likelihood, both Arsenal and Man City will need to lose their next two games in order to give Liverpool a chance, something Klopp does not believe will happen.
In Klopp's final season at the club, the Reds had hoped to win the quadruple.
The Merseyside club had already won the Carabao Cup and they were in the race to win the Europa League, FA Cup and the Premier League.
However, elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United and from the Europa League against Atalanta broke their dreams.
Disappointing recent results against Palace and Everton have dropped them to third favourites to win the title now.
Klopp would be hoping to win three points when his team face West Ham United in the early kick-off on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Liverpool's pursuit of Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
