Jurgen Klopp satisfied with his team after Europa League elimination
Liverpool were knocked out by Serie A outfit Atalanta.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was happy with the effort his team put against Atalanta in Italy.
After losing the first leg 3-0 at Anfield, Liverpool managed to win the second leg but only with a 1-0 score line, which was not enough to take them through.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his X account, the Liverpool manager was pleased with his team's effort but perplexed about their finishing.
After the match, Klopp said, as quoted by Romano:
“I liked the game a lot for a long time, the commitment, the desire, the power”.
“This was the reaction we needed. I am happy with big parts of the game”.
“We created 67 shots in the three games we didn't win. It's really strange…”.
The fact that Liverpool lost 3-0 at Anfield was actually what ultimately cost them.
In any European game, a 1-0 victory on the road, coupled with a clean sheet and a few other positive signs, is normally cause for celebration; nevertheless, the damage had already been done.
After Liverpool's Europa League departure on Thursday, Klopp was eager to emphasize the positives, stressing the significance of getting back to winning ways despite Liverpool's 3-1 aggregate loss to Atalanta.
Liverpool are vying for the Premier League title with Arsenal and Manchester City, who were both eliminated from Europe on Wednesday after losing to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the Champions League, will now concentrate on their final six league games of the season in an attempt to provide a fairytale ending for Klopp, who is set to leave Anfield in the summer.
Liverpool's next two away games are in seven days, starting with their away match against Fulham on Sunday.
In the upcoming week, they take on Everton, and the weekend after that, they play West Ham United.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with a move for a new centre-back!
