Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk delivers Arne Slot verdict
Van Dijk has praised Feyenoord manager who has been linked with the Liverpool job.
Virgil van Dijk thinks Arne Slot has the appropriate "philosophy" to be a successful manager of Liverpool.
The Premier League club have made Slot their first choice to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield since the German will be leaving the team at the end of the season.
Slot is expected to succeed Jurgen Klopp, and Van Dijk thinks his 45-year-old compatriot would be a fine choice for the club.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his X account about the Liverpool captain’s comments about Slot.
Van Dijk said, as quoted by Romano:
“Arne Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment”.
“With the way he plays, the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach”.
“But I read and hear that it is far from complete. We shall see. We will focus on that next season, still a long way off”.
As Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen and the Premier League club's interest in Sporting manager Ruben Amorim cooled, the 45-year-old became the front-runner for the Liverpool position.
Slot had previously been linked with a move to Tottenham before they eventually appointed Ange Postecoglou.
Liverpool appreciate Slot's playing style and feel he would be the right fit for the club to succeed Klopp.
The Merseyside club's talks with Slot have been positive and now they are continuing negotiations with his club Feyenoord in order to reach an agreement on the compensation.
Slot has emerged as a contender who meets Liverpool's requirements in their quest for a new manager after leading Feyenoord to the 2022–23 Eredivisie title.
With four games remaining, Feyenoord trail PSV by nine points in the Eredivisie and won the Dutch Cup this season.
Liverpool are thought to have been drawn to Slot's attacking playing style and player development skills.
