Liverpool target Ruben Amorim provides key update on his future
Sporting manager has addressed the rumours linking him to Liverpool..
Liverpool are keeping an eye on Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, but the Portuguese manager has refused to commit to a future with the club.
The 39-year-old coach has emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
The German has been in charge of the Liverpool team since October 2015. But Amorim isn't quite ready to fill that void yet.
Following Sporting's Primeira Liga victory over Estrela Amadora, Amorim stated that his whole concentration is on Sporting.
The Portuguese team still have a chance of winning two titles this season. In the battle for the league title, they are neck-to-neck with Benfica, with Sporting having a tiny advantage.
The two are also competing in the Taca de Portugal semifinals.
Amorim stated that his future involves more than contracts and money.
The former Benfica midfielder spent most of his professional career in Portugal. He is now making significant progress in the Primeira Liga.
Amorim said on his future: "Right now, I’m focused on Sporting. I’m so proud to be Sporting’s coach. We’re focused on winning titles. You’ll see in the end, but I've a contract and I’m happy here. That’s the most important thing, more than a contract, that I’m happy here."
Amorim became Sporting's manager in March 2020. Sporting won the Portuguese first division in his first full season in command, with Pedro Goncalves scoring 23 goals.
That was Sporting's first league title in 19 years, and it demonstrated Amorim's coaching abilities.
