Luka Modric rejects lucrative offers to extend Real Madrid stay
The Real Madrid legend is going to stay at the club after agreeing a new deal.
Luka Modric will continue his hugely successful career at Real Madrid by signing a new deal at the club.
The Croatian midfielder's contract was set to expire at the end of this season but now the player and the club have decided to extend their parnership.
After joining the La Liga club from Tottenham in 2012, Modric has been one of their best players in the success they have enjoyed in the last decade.
The midfielder, who won his sixth Champions League title with Los Blancos, has a chance to add more medals to his cabinet by prolonging his stay at the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between the player and the club is done and only formalities are left to announce the deal.
Romano tweeted:
"Luka Modrić stays at Real Madrid as he will sign new deal next week — here we go, confirmed.
"Final meeting will Florentino Pérez will be exactly as expected: put pen to paper, take pictures, then announce it.
"Modrić didn’t care about money, he rejected two big proposals."
Modric had other lucrative offers to leave the Spanish giants but he rejected the lure of money in order to stay at the Bernabeu.
Due to the emergence of young midfielders like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde and Jude Bellingham, Modric has been used as a substitute this season.
However, his experience and his ability is still highly valued by the La Liga winners.
He started 18 games for Carlo Ancelotti's team as they beat Barcelona to the league title.
The midfielder is still happy to stay at the club despite his limited playing time. He wants to contribute in his limited capacity and help the club achieve even more success.
Real Madrid won yet another Champions League title, beating Borussia Dortmund in the final thanks to goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr.
Modric was used as a substitute in the final by Ancelotti as the midfielder became a part of another famous Real Madrid win.
Meanwhile, the newly crowned Champions League winners are preparing for the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
