đ¨ Major Liverpool transfer blunder emerges after disagreement between Slot and Hughes
What a mess at Liverpool...
Liverpool manager Arne Slot and director Richard Hughes reportedly had a major disagreement in the summer over the transfer of Luis Diaz.
Diaz ended up leaving Liverpool to join Bayern Munich, with the Colombia international somewhat surprisingly allowed to leave by Hughes, even though Slot wanted to keep him.
According to Indy Kailaâs report for CaughtOffside, Hughes overruled Slot as he saw the money Bayern were offering for Diaz as âappealingâ, whilst also questioning if it would be the right call to give the player a new contract, as Slot was pushing for.
Will Liverpool be regretting Luis Diaz sale decision?
Diaz shone for Liverpool last season, helping Slot win the Premier League title in his first season in charge, and it increasingly looks like it was a big mistake to let him go.
Slot really seems to have been proven right on this, even if LFC made decent money from the sale of a player who wasnât getting any younger, and that helped them spend on exciting new signings like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike in attack.
Things havenât worked out, however, with these new players failing to make the impact many would have expected, and with Slotâs future as manager increasingly in doubt after some awful results, including last nightâs shock 4-1 home defeat to PSV which made it nine defeats in the last twelve in all competitions.
One imagines thereâll now be UK PayPal bookies shortening their odds on Slot being sacked, even though Hughes surely has to take some share of the blame here for forcing the Dutch tactician to part ways with such an important player.
Luis Diaz shines at Bayern while Liverpool signings struggle
Diaz has started superbly for Bayern, which wonât come as too much of a surprise for those who watched him at Liverpool.
The 28-year-old has 11 goals in his first 18 appearances for his new club, and thatâs in stark contrast to signings like Wirtz and Isak, who have barely made any kind of impact at Anfield at all so far.
All in all, itâs starting to look like one of the worst transfer windows in recent history, with Liverpool failing to keep key names like Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all whilst spending vast sums on players whoâve all flopped.
Even keeping hold of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk now arguably looks like a mistake, with these two ageing stars performing superbly last season but now quickly going downhill and looking past their best.
