🚨 Man City lose highly-rated member of staff to Brentford after agreement reached
Papers to be signed soon
As if to show they are as forward thinking as their contemporaries, Brentford have agreed a deal with Manchester City to secure one of their most highly-rated members of staff.
Whilst the Cityzens can get their pick of players at first-team level, it’s often the strength of a club’s academy structure - including Man City - that can author their future successes.
Phil Foden, for example, is one of at least 24 graduates that have made their debut under Pep Guardiola.
The others have been Brahim Diaz, Pablo Maffeo, Lukas Nmecha, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Claudio Gomes, Adrian Bernabe, Arjanet Muric, Eric Garcia, Felix Nmecha, Ian Carlo Poveda, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Liam Delap, Cole Palmer, Josh Wilson-Esbrand, Finley Burns, Luke Mbete, CJ Egan-Riley, Romeo Lavia, James McAtee, Ben Knight, Sam Edozie and Rico Lewis.
That’s quite the roll call of talent and speaks of the great work done by Steve Torpey and his colleagues.
Now the Bees are set to secure the services of Torpey according to Daily Briefing columnist, Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news exclusively on X during Friday morning.
‘EXCL: Steve Torpey leaving role as senior Academy coach at Manchester City to join Brentford as new Academy Director,’ his post read.
‘Brentford have reached an agreement with Torpey, all set to be signed soon.’
It isn’t clear at this stage who will take Torpey’s place at Man City, however, they have quite the act to follow.
Brentford, meanwhile, will surely be hoping for a similar output from academy level to first-team in due course.
Will Man City regret losing Steve Torpey? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
