đ¨ Man United announce the sacking of Ruben Amorim and name his replacement
The Portuguese manager has been relieved of his duties..
Manchester United have officially confirmed the departure of Ruben Amorim from his role as head coach, bringing an end to a turbulent chapter at Old Trafford.
The club released a statement acknowledging the difficulty of the decision but stressing that it was taken with the aim of maximising their prospects for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.
âWith Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the clubâs leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,â the statement read.
âThis will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish. The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.â
Man United show ruthlessness by sacking Amorim
The timing of the decision reflects growing concern within the hierarchy at Manchester United that the season was at risk of drifting without decisive intervention.
While sixth place still leaves United in contention for European qualification, there was a clear belief internally that performances had plateaued and that momentum needed to be restored quickly.
Amorim was informed of the decision earlier today following a meeting with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.
Sources indicate the discussion was frank and decisive, with Amorim being told that he was being relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
The meeting followed weeks of growing tension behind the scenes, particularly over recruitment strategy and long-term alignment.
A key factor in the breakdown was a lack of shared vision in the transfer market. Amorim had pushed for specific profiles to suit his tactical system, while the clubâs recruitment leadership prioritised a more conservative and financially controlled approach.
Amorim had fallen out with the club hierarchy
This disconnect reportedly strained the working relationship between Amorim and Wilcox, eventually reaching a point where collaboration became increasingly difficult.
In the short term, Darren Fletcher will step into the dugout on an interim basis, starting with Wednesdayâs fixture against Burnley.
Fletcher, a former United midfielder and current senior figure within the clubâs football structure, is seen as a stabilising presence who understands the demands and culture of the institution.
His appointment is intended to provide continuity while the board assesses longer-term options.

It's time to come back to Portugal and preferably to Benfica... I don't like Mourinho style of play.
