Man United sporting director "announcement is expected next week" says Romano
Sir Jim Ratcliffe era set to get underway
It’s taken an age to get to this point, however, it appears that Manchester United are on the verge of truly getting the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era underway.
As things begin to improve ever so slightly on the pitch, so the atmosphere can be lifted further if the news that Fabrizio Romano has advanced comes to pass.
‘Paul Mitchell remains the favourite for the sporting director post, yes. There are more candidates in the frame but Mitchell has always been the first choice since day one,’ he wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
‘The announcement is expected next week, then they will make a final decision on a new director.’
Whilst it’s clearly important that the new regime take things slowly and methodically, there is a need to quickly get to grips with what’s needed in the short, medium and long term to ease United back to the top table of domestic and European football.
Erik ten Hag, for example, could certainly do with more money to spend in future transfer windows, though this could come at the cost of losing one or two of his current highly-paid and under-performing stars.
By having all aspects of the sporting side of the business singing from the same hymn sheet is a start for the club.
If that manifests itself in short term success, whatever that may be, the supporters will surely begin to get behind Sir Jim and his team.
What do you think about the potential appointment of Paul Mitchell as sporting director? Could this be the start of something big at Manchester United? Let us know in the comments.
The same way Jim got rid of Arnold and wants his own man in, I worry he will get rid of Erik and get his own man in.
