🚨 Man Utd eyeing big-name candidates for director role, including former Chelsea target
Is this the right man for the job?
Paul Mitchell is emerging as a leading candidate for the role of sporting director at Manchester United, according to Ben Jacobs on X.
The Daily Briefing columnist says Man Utd are looking at Mitchell and also have an interest in Dan Ashworth at Newcastle, though he is less likely to be available.
“Paul Mitchell is a leading candidate to become MUFC sporting director under Jim Ratcliffe having first been approached in March. Long before talks advanced with the Glazers, INEOS looked at several candidates. Mitchell has also been considered for Nice before,” Jacobs wrote.
“Mitchell wants a return to the Premier League and has been exploring options since last summer. Chelsea was another role he was very interested in.
“Dan Ashworth is another name discussed by INEOS, but it’s been made clear he is not looking to leave Newcastle.”
Mitchell has an impressive CV from his time at Monaco and RB Leipzig, and it would be intriguing to see if he could improve United’s poor recent record in the transfer market.
Another Daily Briefing columnist, Jonathan Johnson, discussed Mitchell’s credentials in his column last week.
