€60m PSG star makes clear statement about his future
The midfielder is approaching the end of his first season in Paris.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte has made it clear that he wants to stay at the club beyond the end of this season.
The Uruguay international has only been a PSG player since June last year when he signed from Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee of €60 million.
Ugarte, 23, is under contract at the Parc des Princes until 2028 but there have been rumours that he could leave Paris, at least temporarily, this summer.
However, despite talk of interest from AC Milan, PSG have no intention to accept any loan offers for Ugarte, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano tweeted an update on the Ugarte situation on Sunday and included a quote from the player himself, who said: “Next season still at PSG? I hope so, I’d love to stay here. We will see what’s gonna happen.”
Ugarte has made 36 PSG appearances this season, although he did not feature in either leg of the club’s UEFA Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.
He has not yet scored a goal for the French giants but he has provided two assists.
Ugarte has made 95 successful tackles in Ligue 1 - 43 more than any other PSG player this season.
He has also recorded more interceptions (40) than any of his teammates, as well as playing 13 key passes and winning 27 free-kicks.
The only PSG players fouled more often than Ugarte this season have been Lucas Hernandez and Kylian Mbappe, who played his final home game for the club this weekend.
Mbappe gave his side an early lead against Toulouse on Sunday by scoring his 27th Ligue 1 goal of the season.
But PSG eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat.
Mbappe is set to join Real Madrid this summer. PSG will not receive a transfer fee for the 25-year-old.
However, as reported by Romano in Saturday’s Daily Briefing, PSG estimate they will save more than €200m as a result of his departure, including around €80m for not having to pay this season’s loyalty bonus.
