Oliver Glasner to Bayern Munich "deal is over" after Crystal Palace demanded €100m in compensation
The search for Thomas Tuchel's replacement continues...
Bayern Munich are having a difficult time trying to appoint Thomas Tuchel’s successor.
It is now 82 days since Bayern announced that Tuchel would be leaving at the end of the season but his replacement has still not been found.
Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and former boss Julian Nagelsmann all snubbed Bayern before attention turned to Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Glasner has been in charge at Selhurst Park for less than three months, after replacing Roy Hodgson in February.
The 49-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to life in the Premier League, with Palace having taken 16 points from their last six games, including impressive wins over Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United.
Palace’s owners are very happy with Glasner and therefore set a mammoth asking price when Bayern came calling.
As reported by Daily Briefing columnist Christian Falk via X.com on Monday, Palace told Bayern that a deal for Glasner would require €100 million in compensation.
Bayern only offered €18m so the deal is now off.
According to Falk, the remaining candidates for the Bayern job now include Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and former Germany head coach Hansi Flick.
Tuchel’s final game in the Bayern dugout is away at Hoffenheim on Saturday.
That will officially conclude the Bavarian club’s first trophyless season since 2012.
Bayern kicked off the 2023/24 campaign by losing 3-0 to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup final.
That game saw England captain Harry Kane make his Bayern debut following a summer transfer from Tottenham.
Kane has since scored 44 goals in all competitions but Bayern will still end the Bundesliga season at least 12 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern exited the German Cup in November courtesy of a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Saarbrucken.
Tuchel’s side then reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they suffered a 4-3 aggregate loss against Real Madrid.
